Ellen L. (Aschenbrenner) Bigos

Ellen L. (Aschenbrenner) Bigos, 92, of Lansdale, PA, passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2025, in Elm Terrace Gardens Nursing Home. Born in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Ellen E. (Grebe) and Gerard F. Aschenbrenner. She was the loving wife of Frank G. Bigos, who passed away January 26, 2019. She became a member of St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church when she moved to Lansdale. Ellen worked as an RN at many locations including Saint Joseph Hospital, a family practice in Exeter Township, and in a pediatrician’s office. She enjoyed knitting and would knit baby blankets for expecting mothers. Ellen loved to bake and was known for her shoo fly pie and homemade pie crusts. She and her daughter would bake cookies every year together for Christmas. It was a cherished mother daughter tradition for both of them. She was very involved in her home parish, SS. Cyril and Methodius in Reading, as a lector and volunteering at the annual summer picnic. She and her husband also volunteered with the Meals on Wheels program in Reading. Ellen will always be remembered as the energetic “determined German” and she will be greatly missed.

 Ellen is survived by her children, David Bigos, husband of Deborah of Sicklerville, NJ, Robert Bigos, husband of Jacqueline of Wyomissing, and Carol McVean, wife of Douglas of Lansdale. Also surviving are Ellen’s grandchildren Joseph, Rebecca, Jennifer, Elizabeth, and Diana, her great grandchildren, Avery, Hannah, and Sebastian, and her siblings, Ruth Michalak, Andrea Shultz, wife of Ronald, and James Aschenbrenner, husband of Patricia. In addition to her husband, Frank, Ellen is predeceased by her brother, Gerald Aschenbrenner.

 A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025, at 12:00pm in Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church, 3121 Kutztown Road, Reading, PA 19605. The family will receive family and friends on Friday, February 21, 2025, from 11:00am to 12:00pm in Holy Guardian Angels RCC. Entombment will follow mass at Gethsemane Cemetery Mausoleum, Chapel of Resurrection, 3139 Kutztown Road, Reading, PA 19605. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org.
