Elizabeth Rudy

Elizabeth Martin Rudy, 90, of Leesport, passed away on Monday, February 28, 2022 at Promedica Skilled Nursing and Rehab, Laureldale. She was the loving wife to Douglas C. Rudy for over 14 years before his passing in June 29, 2002. Born in Leesport, Elizabeth was the daughter of the late, Hugh L. and Mamie M. (Noecker) Martin.

Elizabeth was a graduate of Reading High class of 1949 and achieved a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Albright College 1953, and becoming a member of Phi Delta Sigma Honorary Society. Elizabeth went on to work for Harry Winston Inc. New York City, even having her picture taken with the Hope Diamond, featured in Newsweek. She went on to work for William H. Diller Inc. and as a baker at the former Scarborough Fair. She also worked as a saleswoman at the former Clothes Tree in Wyomissing. Elizabeth was also a former member of the Woman’s Board of St. Joseph Hospital. She was also a member of the Good Shepherd United Church of Christ, of Tuckerton.

Elizabeth is survived by her son, Charles M. Guthrie III, of Juneau AK, her step daughter, Carol R. Kurtz, wife of James A. of Alsace Township, her step grandchildren, Connie Scardelli, and James D. Kurtz, and her great nephew, Michael Bean.

In addition to her husband, Elizabeth is predeceased by her cousin, Forest Compton and his wife Jeanne , her half sister, Clara Meinig, her half nephew, Hans Meinig and his wife Eleanor “Rusty”, and Kristin (Meinig) Bean.

Funeral Service for Elizabeth will be held in Bean Funeral Home, 1605 Rockland Street, Reading, on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Leesport Cemetery. The family will receive guests and relatives in Bean Funeral Home, on Saturday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
