Eh- Chang

November 7, 1928 — March 15, 2017

Eh-feng (Eric) Chang, 88, of Wyomissing, passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 in his home. He was the beloved husband of Ru-sha Chang. Born in Nanjing, China, to the late Peng-cheng Chang and Jing-xian Xu, he was the 5th of 6 children.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Nelson Chang, husband of Elisa Chang of Edison, NJ. He is also survived by his 2 grandchildren, Alexander and Avery Chang.

Eh-feng fled mainland China for Taiwan in 1949 just before the Communist takeover of Shanghai. In Taiwan, he taught at The Air Force Elementary School while completing his undergraduate degree from The National Taiwan Normal University, graduating first in his class. After graduation, he taught at The Affiliated Senior High School of the University. Eh-feng went on to accept a position as a Professor at The National Taiwan Normal University where he taught for seven years. He loved his students and was an admired educator.

Eh-feng's studies took him to the United States in 1968. After studying English at The University of California (Davis), he accepted a scholarship to attend The Ohio State University. He earned his Master's degree in East Asian Languages and Literature in 1971 and also taught at the University while studying and after graduation. Eh-feng eventually retired from Crompton & Knowles in Reading, PA in 1992.

Eh-feng had a passion for reading, writing and studying languages. He also looked forward to frequent visits from his grandchildren and maintaining contact with his former students from around the world. For the past 16 years, he loved spending time with his adored dog, Lucky, who just passed in August of last year.

Memorial Service will be held in Bean Funeral Homes & Crematory, 3825 Penn Ave. Sinking Spring, Friday, March 24, 2017 at 11:00 am. Pastor Wendell Stoltzfus will officiate. The family will receive relatives and friends Friday, from 9:30am-11:00am. Interment will be at convenience of the family. Online condolences may be made at www.beanfuneralhomes.com.
