Edward Harris

Edward F. Harris, 72, of Statesville, NC, where he was a resident for the past five years, formerly of Shillington, passed away September 4, 2010 at 7:26 pm in Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, NC where he was a patient for 4 1/2 weeks. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Linda M.(Tower)Harris. Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Nelson Miles and Rose Alice(Bush)Harris. He was an electronics engineer for Raytheon Co., Waltham, Mass. and then a supervisor at KBI, Tuckerton. In 2000, following 20 years of service, he retired as a lathe operator at CarTech Corp. He served in the United States Navy during peacetime. He attended Grace Fellowhip Church and Western Ave. Baptist Church in Statesville, NC. Mr. Harris was a supporter of Friends of Israel, located in Maryland, an avid reader of theological history and loved spending summers on Martha's Vineyard. He had many friends in North Carolina. Since 1998, he was a supporter of Good Shepherd Mission in Puttur, India. He was a loving father to Edward M. husband of Kathleen L. Harris of Douglassville, Wendy L. wife of Andrew W. Bugay of Sinking Spring and Scott D. husband of Cherisse M. Harris of Mohnton and a loving grandfather to Matthew E., Carissa L., Zachary D., Anthony A., Bryson A. and Olivia G. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Austin D. in 1997. He was a loving brother to Irma Stoner of Reading, Vernon Harris of Wernersville, Alice Kostival of Reading, Trudy Tower of Muhlenberg Twp., Robert Harris of Wernersville and Gene Harris of Reiffton. He was preceded in death by a sister Rita Ross and a brother Nelson Harris, Jr.
