Edward J. Gilbert, 81, of Reading went to be with the Lord surrounded by his loving family April 3, 2010 at 10:05 AM in Reading Hospital & Medical Center where he was a patient for 4 days. His nicknames were (Gilly) and (Bud). He was the husband of Dorothy J. (Smith) Gilbert. Born in Hamburg on November 15, 1928, he was the son of the late Edgar F. Gilbert and the late Helen E. (Miller) Gilbert.
Mr. Gilbert was a 1946 graduate of Reading High School. He was employed for more than 40 years as a welder and crane operator by ConRail. He later owned and operated EG Cotton Candy at the Reading Phillies Stadium for the past 20 years. He received th Jim Pollock Award for his service at the stadium.
He was a member of St. Thomas United Church of Christ in Reading. He was also a member of St. John's Lodge #435 F. & A.M.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter Sharon Louise Eberhart wife of Dennis R. Eberhart of Laureldale, 2 sons Brian Jay Gilbert husband of Dolores M. Kachel of Greenfields and Troy C. (Chip) Gilbert fiancAC. of Tanya R. Bennecoff of Shillington, 5 grandchildren Dennis R. Eberhart Jr., Michael S. Eberhart, Shannon M. Gilbert, Troy C. Gilbert Jr., and Bethany T. Gilbert and 6 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister Betty Jane Kahn.
