Edward K. Franke, 99, of Blandon, formerly of Reading, passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at home, surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband to Mary Anne (Grealy) for over 56 years of marriage, before her passing on May 1, 2010. Born in Reading, Edward was the son of the late, Edward A. Franke and Dorothy (Squibb). Edward was a graduate of Reading High School and went on to serve in the United States Army during World War II. Edward worked as a truck driver for New Penn Motor Express, upon his retirement from trucking, he continued working for 5 years as a messenger for Meridian Bank. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Reading.
Edward is survived by his children, Susan M. Standhardt, wife of Allen, of Oley, Donna L. Franke, of Blandon, and David K. Franke, husband of Teresa, of Blandon. He is survived by grandchildren, Kristen A. Erb, wife of Evan, of Manheim, Edward W. Standhardt, and Robbie Lynn Franke, his great grandchildren, Keelie, Trey, and Sofia. He is also survived by his sister, Marion Engelhart, wife of Calvin, of Reading.
In addition to his wife Mary Anne, Edward is predeceased by his sisters, Jeanne R. Franke, and Grace Franke.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at The Chapel of Resurrection, Gethsemane Cemetery, 3139 Kutztown Road, Reading, on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at 10:00 AM. Monsignor John Grabish, Celebrant. Entombment to follow in Gethsemane Cemetery, Chapel of Resurrection. The family will receive relatives and friends in Bean Funeral Home, 1605 Rockland Street, Reading on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, from 8:00 AM to 9:15 AM.
