Edward Brophy

Edward Allen Brophy, 91 of Cumru Twp., passed away on June 18, 2016 at his residence.
Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Edward and Dorothy (Allen) Brophy.
Edward was a 1942 graduate of Reading High School. He went on to attend Wyomissing Polytechnical Institute and was employed in management at Berkshire Knitting Mills for 30 years and for the Dolfin Corporation, retiring in 1988.
Mr. Brophy was the past President of Reading-Berks Industrial Management Club and past Vice President of Southern Middle School Hall of Fame. Edward was very active in Southwest Christian Ministries of Reading, and in the ministry at the former St. James Lutheran Church of Reading, where he served as President of church council. He was also very active in baseball, basketball, and football. He was a member of the Reading-Berks Basketball Association. Edward cherished his Irish heritage, and enjoyed watching the New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles, and thoroughbred horse racing.
He was predeceased by his wife: Mary Louise (Sarangoulis) Brophy, brothers: Bernard M. and Dennis J. Brophy, and sister: Mary Ellen Kaufmann.
He is survived by his son: Rev. Mark E. Brophy, husband of Barbara A. of Leesport; granddaughter: Lisa A. Irons, wife of Matthew J. of Lower Alsace Twp.; and great-grandchildren: Nathaniel F. and Evelyn A.
Funeral Service will be held at Alsace Lutheran Church, 2201 Kutztown Road, Reading, on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at 10:15AM. The family will receive friends and relatives at Bean Funeral Home, 3825 Penn Ave., Sinking Spring, on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 from 6-8:00PM and at church on Wednesday from 9-10:00AM. The interment will follow the service at Alsace Cemetery.
