Dr. Harold Farber

Dr. Harold I. Farber, 93, of Spring Twp., passed away February 21, 2010 at 4:54 PM in his residence. He was the husband of Phyllis R. (Resnick) Farber who passed away September 25, 2003. Born in Cleveland, Ohio on August 26, 1916, he was the son of the late Louis M. and Adelaide (Josephberg) Farber.


Dr. Farber graduated from John Adams High School in Cleveland, Ohio in 1934, earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Ohio State University in 1938 and MD from Ohio State University and Medical School in 1941. He received Phi Beta Cappa Honors in College and Alpha Omega Alpha Honors in Medical School. He served as a Captain in the Army Medical Corp. during World War 2 in England, France, Belgium and Germany. He enjoyed competitive ballroom dancing, was an avid tennis fan and a classic movie buff.


Dr. Farber was an Internist and Cardiologist in private practice in Reading from 1947 until 1986 and continued making house calls for 5 years after his retirement. He served as Editor of the Berks County Medical Record for 10 years, he was a Diplomat of Internal Medicine Association of US, a Fellow of American College of Physicians, a Fellow of American College of Cardiology, Chief of Medicine at Community General Hospital and was President of Berks County Medical Society in 1983. He was a member of Reform Congregation Temple Oheb Sholom.


Surviving is a daughter Lois Farber in New York, NY and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son Barry E. Farber who passed away in 1996.
