Douglas Holloway

Douglas Roy Holloway, 87, died April 15, 2010, at Reading Hospital Medical Center.


Roy was born June 1st, 1922 in Devon, England to Mary and Harry Holloway. He attended high school in Pleasantville, New York. Upon his entrance into the U.S. Army, he took his oath to become a U.S. Citizen. While serving during WWII, he was a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne, landed in France on D Day, was wounded in action, and captured as a Prisoner of War; which garnered the Purple Heart. After the Army, he moved to Tom and Kate Gately's in Wilton, Connecticut to work as a professional dog handler apprentice. Later he moved to Woodbury, Connecticut with his first wife Emma starting his lifelong passion of handling and breeding dogs. In 1970, Roy married Deborah Lawson who also shared his passion for dogs. The pinnacle of his career was as the Best in Show Judge at the most prestigious dog show in the world, Westminster, in Madison Square Garden in 1996. Roy retired in 2008, residing with Debbie in the Center Park region of Reading PA.


Roy enjoyed a great story. He loved to grab the listener's attention and send them on a journey. Most after hearing his stories have said "I felt like I was there". He enjoyed the game of golf and spending time with family, friends, and most of all... dogs. He love and respected people from all walks of life, which was one of his greatest gifts.


Roy is survived by his wife Debbie, their three children; Christina Holloway of Wilmington, DE, Gregory Holloway of Reading, and Jennifer and husband Trent Hellwig of Dover, DE. He is survived by his first wife Emma Holloway; their 2 children, Linnea Holloway of Woodbury, CT, Douglas Holloway Jr. and his wife Rita of Newark, DE. He is also survived by one sibling; brother, Norman Holloway and wife Jean of Mahopac, NY, 6 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.




Pre-deceased by his parents and siblings: Bob, Vic, Hector, Beryl and Jean.
