Dr. Douglas W. Flowers D.M.D., 59, of West Lawn, passed away Sunday, November 15, 2009 at 11:55 p.m. at home.
Born in Lockport, NY, he was the son of the late Donald Flowers and Doris (Singer) Flowers.
He was the husband of Mary (Ganim) Flowers. The couple shared 31 wonderful years of marriage. He was a graduate of Lockport High School, and earned his BS in Biology at the State University of New York at Albany. He obtained his DDS from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine. He served his graduate residency at St. Joseph Medical Center. He served one year as resident in the Anesthesiology Department at the George Washington University Hospital and Medical Center in Washington D.C. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserves, attaining rank of Commander, where the majority of his service was with the 4th FSSG, providing Marine support. In 1979, he started Berks Dental Medicine Associates P.C. and maintained the practice until after his diagnosis with pancreatic cancer. In 2007, he sold the practice and continued to work at Exeter Cosmetic Dentistry P.C. until recently. He served on the staffs of the former Community General Hospital, Ashland Regional Medical Center, and St. Joseph Medical Center. He enjoyed spending time with family and engaging in outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, and walking the dog. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters: Elizabeth "Beth" (Flowers), wife of Bob Hachtman of Bethlehem, Bridget (Flowers), wife of Jason Meile of Evesham, NJ, and Megan Flowers of West Lawn. He is also survived by his sister: Susan (Flowers) Cassick of Lockport, NY, and a brother: David Flowers of Ashburn, VA.
