Dorris Gerfin

Dorris Kline Gerfin quietly passed away at 9 am on 9 September at Azalea Estates Assisted Living Apartments, in Slidell, LA. She was born on 19 March 1923, in Columbia, Lancaster County, PA; graduated from Columbia High School in 1940; and, married Andrew Lotz Gerfin (deceased) of Columbia, PA on 8 August 1943. Dorris worked as an executive secretary for physicians in Wilmington, DE and Altoona, PA, in addition to a Vice President at Koppers Headquarters in Pittsburgh, PA., prior to moving to the Reading area, where she served as an Administrative Assistant at Berks County Vocational Institute for 5 years. She retired March 1983. Dorris was a member of the Adult Choir and served as a Communion Assistant, as well as the Treasurer of the Women of Atonement Lutheran Church. She was a member of Golden Rule Chapter 390, Order of Eastern Star. Her Father was Chloral (Hal) Kline and Mother Dora Sowers, both of Columbia, PA. Dorris is survived by her sister, Ferne K. Simpson of Palm Desert, CA, and her two sons, Captain Andrew L. Gerfin, Jr USCG (retired) of Picayune, MS, and Commander Mark K. Gerfin USN (retired) of Wake Forest, NC, and their respective families. She was predeceased (this year) by her sister, June K. Szabo of Lancaster, PA. Internment and memorial services will be held at Atonement Lutheran Church, 5 Wyomissing Blvd, Wyomissing, PA at 11am on Saturday, 1 October.
