Dorothy Mae Freese, 90, formerly of Reading, passed away Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 5:45 pm in Renown Medical Center, Reno, Nevada. She was the wife of the late Wayne L. Freese who passed away July 9, 2002. Born in Tuckerton, Berks County, Mrs. Freese was the daughter of the late George W. and Ida M. (Clauser) Althouse. She was a semi-automatic operator at Interstate Container Corp. in Reading for 40 years, retiring in September of 1988. She was then employed by Sears in the Berkshire Mall as an associate in Women's Intimate Apparel for 16 years last working in 2015. Mrs. Freese was president of the Berks Fireman's Association and was a member of the State Fireman Committee. She was treasurer of the Advisory Committee of Community Services for the AFLCIO and served as secretary. Mrs. Freese was a life member of the Cub Scouts and served as Cubmaster for Pack #240 and had been involved in scouting since 1950. She wasa graduate and member of the Union Leadership Academy and served on St. James Evangelical Church Council since 1989. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 8795. Mrs. Freese was preceded in death by her son Glenn A. Freese who passed away October 16, 2000. She is survived by 2 granddaughters, one of which is Lori A. Freese, fiancAC. of Leo Martinez of Reno, Nevada with whom she last resided and Heather Freese who resides in New Jersey; 3 step grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren as well as her sister Patricia A. Spatz of Reinholds and her brother Howard M. Althouse. She was preceded in death by her 7 siblings.
Funeral Service will be held in Bean Funeral Home, 129 East Lancaster Ave. Shillington, Monday, December 12, 2016 at 11:00 am. Reverend Dr. Robert A. Stewart will officiate. Interment will follow in Good Shepherd Cemetery, Tuckerton. The family will receive relatives and friends Monday, December 12, 2016 from 10:00-11:00 am. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Hawk Mountain Council 402 Blue Mountain Road, Schuylkill Haven, PA 17972 in memory of Mrs. Dorothy Mae Freese.
