Donald J. Burns, 100, formerly of Shamokin, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 1:19 am at Country Meadows of Wyomissing. He was the husband of the late Olga J. (Chernago) Burns who passed away March 30, 2016. Born in Shamokin, Mr. Burns was the son of the late Edward and Zella (Kahler) Burns. He was a member of Saint Joseph Roman Catholic Church and served in the United States Army during World War II and fighting in the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Burns is survived by his daughters Sharon D. Royle wife of Donald E. Royle of Sinking Spring; Patricia B. Davis wife of Stephen W. Davis of Reading; Stacey A. Elliott wife of John S. Elliott of Harrisburg, his grandchildren Jeffrey Royle, Jason Royle, Kelly Davis, Sean Elliott, Cady Elliott, Ryan Elliott and great grandchildren Joseph Royle, Emma Royle, Cassie Royle. Mr. Burns was preceded in death by his siblings Harry Burns, Gerald Burns, Thomas Burns and Mary Mace.
Funeral procession will depart Bean Funeral Home 129 East Lancaster Ave. Shillington, Friday, April 12, 2024 at 11:15 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Chapel of Resurrection at Gethsemane Cemetery 3139 Kutztown Road, Laureldale, at 12:00 pm. Reverend Monsignor John J. Grabish, Celebrant. Entombment will follow. Military Honors will be rendered by the United States Army Honor Guard and Topton American Legion Post 217. The family will receive relatives and friends at Bean Funeral Home Friday from 9:30 am to 11:15 am. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Saint Joseph Roman Catholic Church 1018 North 8th Street, Reading, PA 19604 in memory of Mr. Donald J. Burns.
