Donald Brown

September 22, 1926 — March 14, 2016

Donald Graham Brown, 89, a resident of The Highlands at Wyomissing and retired pharmaceutical industry executive, died Monday, March 14, 2016 in the Reading Hospital. The cause of death was a stroke.
Donald was born in Enfield, CT. In this youth, he was Paul Robeson's (actor/singer) paperboy. During World War II, he served on active duty in the United States Navy as a Sonarman Second Class aboard the destroyer USS Scroggins DE799. He graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1950 with a degree in biochemistry. He was a former marketing and sales executive of G.D. Searle and Company, Chicago IL, retiring in 1991.
Donald was a member of Sequin Level #140 Lodge of Masons, Newington, CT and a Noble of Rajah Shrine, Reading. He was a former member of the Berks County Senior Orchestra and the Rajah Shrine Concert Band, playing alto saxophone.
Donald is survived by his wife of 62 years Audrey (McBride) Brown; daughters Leslie E. Bell, wife of G. Thompson Bell, III, Wyomissing; Kimberly B. Gustenhoven, wife of Carl T. Gustenhoven, North Andover, MA; six grandchildren Drew Thompson Bell, Austin, TX; Kyle Anderson Bell and his wife Carolyn Bell, Philadelphia; Lindsay Bryant Bell, Washington, DC and her fiancAC. Matthew McCrea, Greenbelt, MD; Erich Liddell Gustenhoven, Portsmouth, NH; Kristofor Brown Gustenhoven, North Andover, MA; Philip Kennedy Gustenhoven, North Andover, MA. Other survivors include four nephews Robert L. Brown, William S. Brown, David J. McBride and Donald W. McBride and one niece Linda M. Willis. He was predeceased by a brother William S. Brown and a nephew Daniel H. McBride.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mr. Brown's memory to Shiners Hospital for Children, P.O. Box 40, Blandon, PA 19510 and/or Southport Congregational Church, 524 Pequot Ave., Southport, CT 06890.
A Memorial Service will be held in the Cultural Center in The Highlands at Wyomissing, 2000 Cambridge Avenue, Wyomissing, PA 19610, Saturday March 26, 2016 at 2:00pm, Rev. Gary Dierolf will be officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends immediately following the service. A private inurnment will be held in the Memorial Garden at Southport Congregational Church, Southport, CT.
