Donald W. Bell, 93, of Reading, passed away August 8, 2016 in Mifflin Center.
He was predeceased by his 1st wife Doris M. (Phelan) Bell in 1979 and his 2nd wife Madeline J. (Castellano) Bell in 2003.
Born in Reading, Mr. Bell was a sergeant in the US Army Air Force 53rd Long Range Reconnaissance Squadron serving during World War II in North Africa and Italy and earned 8 bronze stars. He was employed at Berkshire Knitting Mills and retired from the US Postal Service in 1983 as the Postmaster of Reading.
Survivors include Step-sons: Bryan S. Brunner, husband of Trudy of Johnstown, PA; Michael R. Brunner, husband of Sharon of Mohnton; grandchildren Jeannine Niebel, wife of Matthew; Jennifer Bell, wife of Brian; Brandi Hawk, wife of Matthew; Michael Brunner, husband of Bonnie Sue; twelve great-grandchildren and his sister Marlene Reisch, wife of Martin of Wyomissing.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Mr. Bell's memory to Berks County Veteran's Affairs: 726 Cherry Street, Reading, PA 19601 and/or Wounded Warrior Project: P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
Services will be held in Bean Funeral Homes, 129 East Lancaster Avenue, Shillington, Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at 11:00am, Rev. Rebecca Brenner officiating. Burial will follow with military honors in Charles Evans Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends 10:00-11:00am.
