Dolores Cardinale Harter, 88, of Wernersville, passed away at Phoebe Berks Health Care Center on August 28, 2017.
Born in 1929 in West Reading, she was the daughter of the late Camille and Margharite (Digacamo) Cardinale. She married the love of her life, Richard Harter in 1951.
She was a 1947 graduate of West Reading High School where she was an honor student, band majorette, and athlete in every sport.
Dolores held a career as a loan officer at Bank of Pennsylvania and bookkeeper at Baltimore Life Insurance. She served on the boards of Berks County Selective Service, Berks County Multiple Sclerosis Society, Helping Wheels, Pennsylvania Junior Miss, the Sacred Heart Society, and Phoebe Village Financial Committee. Her volunteer work included Reading Museum Docent, Art Goes To School, Marriage Encounter, Camp Fire Girls, co-creator of the Physical Education program at Sacred Heart Elementary School, Berks County MS Walk and many others. She was a many-time medal winner in the PA and Berks Senior Games.
Dolores cherished her roles as daughter, sister, wife and mother and as aunt to a multitude of nieces, nephews and her children's friends. She was an avid traveler beginning with adventurous family vacations up and down the East Coast and culminating in international travel to Mexico, Canada, Nova Scotia, Germany, France, Holland, Macedonia, Panama, and more. She thrived in helping others and sharing her love of life. She lived and loved with passion and endless energy in every moment.
She is preceded in death by her husband and her sisters Antoinette (Cardinale) Binder and Mary (Cardinale) Piscatelli and brothers Peter Cardinale and Carmen Cardinale.
She is survived by her sister Evelyn (Cardinale) Fick; her children Gary Harter (spouse Trudi) and Shari (Harter) Maiers; her grandchildren Claire Maiers (husband Peter D'Elia), Zachary Maiers, Demerize Harter and Jacob Harter; and her great-granddaughter
Genevieve Margherite D'Elia.
The family will receive friends and family at Bean Funeral Home, 3825 Penn Ave., Sinking Spring, on Friday, September 1, 2017 from 3-4:30PM followed by Funeral Services at The Chapel at Phoebe Berks Village on Friday, September 1, 2017 at 5:00PM with reception immediately following. The interment will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Gethsemane Cemetery at 10:00 AM.
