Dennis G. Bacastow, 71, of Shillington, passed away on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at the Reading Hospital. Born in Reading, Dennis was the son of the late Paul Bacastow and Roberta (Cassel). Dennis was a 1969 graduate of Wilson High School, and a 1973 graduate of Penn State University.
To keep life interesting, Dennis worked a variety of jobs at Rockwell International, at Fabrication Specialist, and at B&G Glass, Sears Optical Department Store, as a grocery cashier, stockman at Two Guys and helped with some roofing and siding jobs. He also was a self-employed painter and handyman.
Dennis had a passion for motorcycles, especially Triumphs, Nortons, and Yamaha dirt bikes. Back in the day he rode all the time in most any kind of weather and was quite the dare devil at times. He enjoyed fun rides with friends and going to many motorcycle events together. Dennis also was an avid bicyclist and was a former member of the Berks Bike Club.
Dennis was very resourceful, self-reliant and practical. He had a knack for fixing things and liked using old tools and the challenge of a puzzle. He enjoyed most the simple things in life and life’s simple pleasures and enjoyed being out in nature.
In his retirement he enjoyed living a simple life with Lynn, caring for the yard, always bare foot, getting a kick out of people’s reaction for not wearing shoes. He enjoyed listening to the radio, especially short wave. He also enjoyed walking, doing puzzles, food shopping and relaxing on the porch.
Dennis is survived by his loving partner, Lynn Sands, whom he shared over 52 years with, his sister, Cheryl Leidy, widow of James, and nephew, Chris Leidy, and niece Elizabeth (Leidy) Greenspan and her children. He is also survived by his many cousins.
Funeral service for Dennis will be held privately at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Dennis’s honor to the charity of your choice or by simply remembering him in your heart with happy times shared.
