David Melcher

David Huyett Melcher, 76, of Reading, passed away April 22, 2011 at 8:25 pm in his residence of natural causes. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Barbara A. Clark. Born in Shillington he was the son of the late Robert E. and Clarie M. (Huyett) Melcher. Mr. Melcher was a 1954 graduate of Reading High School and attended Wyomissing Poly Tech Institute. He was a Foundry Engineer for Pennsylvania Steel in Hamburg for 26 years and then for Delray Steel in Melvindale, Michigan. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Reading. Mr. Melcher was a 32nd degree Mason and member of Lodge 62 F&AM in Reading, member of Scottish Rite, avid hunter and fisherman, loved the outdoors, sailed his sail boat on the Chesapeake Bay, loved tennis and was a member of Berks County Tennis club in Wyomissing, he designed a built Civil War Canons, 1/2 scale and designed gun stock and was an excellant woodworker and carpenter. He was an avid trap shooter and member of Exeter Sportsman's Club, loved to ride his motorcycle, was a member of Oley Valley Fish and Game Association, NRA, Chapel Rock Hunting Lodge, 17th Ward Republican Committee Man and ran for the 126th legislative seat in 2008. He was a most loving father to David Jeffery husband of Joan Melcher of Richfield, MN, Kathy Jo wife of William C. Waldron III of Naperville, ILL, Kimberly Ann wife of Keith A. Swavely of Denver, PA and Ryan Clark Melcher of Front Royal, VA. He was preceded in death by his son Garth Alan Melcher April 1975. He was the greatest Pop Pop and loved spending time with Katliam E. Waldron, Kristina A. Swavely, Karley A. Swavely, Haley P. Swavely-Rollman and James A. Swavely-Himmelright. Also surviving are his siblings Robert H. Melcher of Reading, Marjorie Owens of St. Lawrence and Marilyn Gross of St. Lawrence.
