Darlene Shaffer

On Wednesday July 18, 2018 at 4:15 pm the most wonderful loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother: Darlene N. Shaffer, 79, of Spring Township received her wings. She was the wife of Elwood D. Shaffer to whom she was married to for 63 years. Born in Reading on November 29, 1938, Mrs. Shaffer was the daughter of the late Herman W. and Kathryn L. (Gring) Stech. She was employed as a sales associate in the children's department at J.C. Penney in Reading for 23 years retiring January 31, 2004. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Shaffer is survived by her children Timothy L. Shaffer, husband of Debbie Shaffer of Birdsboro; Jeffery J. Shaffer, husband of Carol Shaffer of Shoemakersville; Douglas D. Shaffer, husband of Kathi Shaffer of Hamburg; Brenda L. Gelsinger, wife of David Gelsinger of Reinholds and Melanie Jo Hetrick, wife of Daniel Hetrick of Mohrsville. She was preceded in death by her children Troy Dan Shaffer in 1981 and Carmela Jean Shaffer in 1998. She is also survived by her grandchildren Travis, Stacey, Casey, Justin, Danelle, Kelli, Jared, Kristin, Alexa, Jade, Olivia and 22 great grandchildren with one on the way.
Funeral Service will be held in Bean Funeral Home, 129 East Lancaster Ave. Shillington, Sunday, July 22, 2018 at 2:00 pm. Reverend Merrill R. Marisseau will officiate. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family. The family will receive relatives and friends in Bean Funeral Home, Sunday 1:00-2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 968 Postal Road, Suite 110, Allentown, PA 18109 in memory of Mrs. Darlene N. Shaffer.
