Cornelius Hickey

Cornelius J. Hickey, 85, of Exeter Twp. passed away Monday, August 10th at 12:15 a.m. at home.

Born in New Rochelle, NY, he was the son of the late Cornelius J. and Gladys Hickey, and the widower of Alice M. (Curry) Hickey, who passed away on October 16, 1997.

He received a bachelor's degree from Fordham Univ., and graduated from St. John's Law School in 1951.

He was a US Navy Veteran, serving during both World War II and The Korean Conflict. An avid military history buff, he was a member of the Destroyer Escort Sailors Assoc., and the Naval Institute.

He worked as an attorney for Insurance Co. of North America, later known as Cigna, for 22 years, retiring in 1993. He was a long-time resident of Floral Park, N.Y., having lived there from 1970-1995.

He enjoyed New York Sports teams, especially the Mets, Jets, and his first love, the Brooklyn Dodgers. He also loved Dixieland Jazz, and was an amateur drummer.

He was a member of St. Catharine of Siena R.C.C., Exeter Twp.

He is survived by his son: Neil M. Hickey, husband of Lori B. Hickey of Exeter Twp., and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was pre deceased by a sister: Jeanne (Hickey) Erny, who passed away in May of 2009.
