Clyde J. Wood, 58, of Shillington, died at 7:12 p.m. Thursday, July 2, 2009 at University of Pennsylvania Hospital, where he had been admitted after suffering a brain aneurysm earlier in the day.
Clyde was born in Pottsville, PA, the son of the late Rita (Niadna) and the late Clyde Cyril Wood, and grandson of the late Anna Niadna, his beloved Granny.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Deborah J. (Koenig) Wood, and 2 sons, of whom he was most proud, Michael A. Battista, married to Kathleen, of Shillington, and Mitchell J. Wood, at home. He had one grandson, Paul Battista.
Clyde attended St. Peter's School and Central Catholic High School, both in Reading, and graduated from Reading High School in 1968. He was also a graduate of Reading Area Community College and was a certified phlebotomist. He was a member of the American Society for Clinical Pathology.
Clyde was employed for the last 15 years by Quest Diagnostics, last working Thursday morning. He was previously employed by Sharpoint and Empire Steel Castings.
Other survivors include 3 sisters: Celeste Nice, Souderton, Rita Osiecki, Reading, and Maureen Roode, Port St. Lucie, FL; his mother-in-law, Carolyn (Koenig) Wischuck, Coatesville; his sister-in-law Stefanie (Wischuck) Whitman, wife of Charles; and 10 nieces and nephews.
Clyde's most powerful legacy is the love and compassion he imparted upon his family, friends, co-workers, and patients. He is loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him.
Rest in peace, Laddy.
