Cleo Kostomeris

Cleo Kostomeris, 94, of Reading, PA passed away on May 20, 2017 at the Berks Heim Nursing Home.

Born in the Village of Polichnitos on the Island of Lesvos, Greece, she was the daughter of the late Spyros Spyrellis and Metaxia (Kolara) Spyrellis. Her husband, James H. Kostomeris, predeceased her on March 26, 1973.

Cleo started working in a clothing manufacturing company as a sewing machine operator within a week after arriving in the United States and retired after 30 years in 1984. Her employers included Rachmann's, My Lady Sportswear, Astor Swimwear, and Fitwell. She was a member of the International Ladies Garment Wear Union (ILGWU) and of Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, where she volunteered at the Annual Church Bazaar for many years.

Her hobbies included cooking, gardening, sewing, and crocheting. Her passion in cooking and sewing was evident in the meals and clothing she made. Cleo had been a breast cancer survivor since 1995.

Her siblings in Greece also predeceased her: her sister, Irini Iatrou, and her brothers, Harry Spyrellis and Theodore Spyrellis.

She is survived by her son, Harry Kostomiris of West Lawn, her daughter Metaxia Kostomeris of Shillington, and her triplet grandsons: Nicholas Kostomiris and his fiancee, Tina Schulze (Berlin, Germany), Demetrios Kostomiris (College Station, TX) and Michael Kostomiris (Wernersville, PA).

Funeral Services will be held at Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 1001 E. Wyomissing, Blvd., Reading on Friday, May 26, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. The burial will follow at Charles Evans Cemetery. Viewing hours will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Bean Funeral Home, 129 E. Lancaster Ave., Shillington from 7:00-9:00 p.m. and on Friday, May 26, 2017 at Church, from 10:00-11:00a.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, the Alzheimer's Association, or the National Cancer Institute.
