Chief Schweyer

Chief Lee K. Schweyer, 58, Chief of Police of the Borough of Sinking Spring, passed away Monday, October 8, 2018 at 12:26 pm in his residence of natural causes. Born in Allentown he was the son of the late Kenneth and Ann (Egge) Schweyer. Chief Schweyer was a 1977 graduate of William Allen High School in Allentown and a graduate of Lehigh County Community College with a degree in criminal justice. He served in the United States Army. Chief Schweyer was previously employed for 3 years as a campus police officer at Kutztown University before beginning his career in 1988 with the Borough of Sinking Spring Police Department where he became Chief of Police in 2012. He was the first law enforcement officer to receive the annual Berks County Heroes Award for rescuing an elderly couple from a burning building in West Lawn in 2004. Chief Schweyer is survived by his fiancAC. Lynne A. Johnston of Wyomissing; son Jason Schweyer of Macungie; two granddaughters Leah and Lorelei; sister, Karen A. Ulmer, wife of Joe F. Ulmer of Schnecksville and nephews Erik Ulmer of Virginia and Christopher Ulmer of State College.
Funeral Service will be held in Bean Funeral Home, 3825 Penn Ave. Sinking Spring Monday, October 15, 2018 at 11:00 am. The Very Reverend Robert J. Rebeck will officiate. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends in Bean Funeral Home Sunday, October 14, 2018 5:00-8:00 pm and Monday 10:00-11:00 am. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the charity of ones choice in memory of Lee K. Schweyer. Online condolences may be made at www.beanfuneralhomes.com
