Chester Perfetto, 88, a 43 year Korean Conflict veteran of the Naval Reserve of Lower Heidelberg Township, passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2019. He was the husband of Doris (Kemmerer) Perfetto. Born in Reading, Mr. Perfetto was the son of the late James and Theresa (Amadio) Perfetto.
Chet, a native of Reading Retired as a Captain in the U.S. Naval Reserve, graduated from Reading High School, Kutztown State College in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science degree and Temple University in 1960 with a master's degree in education administration.
Chet taught in elementary schools in Bern Township, Boyertown Shoemakersville and one year as the principal at Wyomissing Hills Elementary school.
Enlisted in the Naval Reserves in March 1950 and was commission as an Ensign in July 1953.
1953 to 1955 He attended an eight-week gunnery officers ordinance school in Washington DC and served 22 months aboard the cargo ship USS Antares as the gunnery officer and assistant cargo officer.
Cmdr Perfetto served as a group supervisory officer recruiting officer, classification officer, assistant training office the commanding officer of the Surface Division in Reading and Allentown PA.
Chet was an active member of the Reserve Officers Assn. He wore the European Occupation, National Defense, and the Armed Forces Reserve Medals. He received several Citations from the U S Navy. Received the PA Commendation Medal from the Adjutant General, Major General Richard M Scott. For 3 years in a row, he received the National Sea Power Speaker Award.
Chet was the Commanding Officer of the U S Naval & Marine Corp Reserve Training Center, Kenhurst Avenue West Reading PA from 1969 to 1972. Chet was appointed to the Admirals Staff Commandant 4th Naval District Philadelphia.
He represented fourth Naval District as the Naval Liaison Officer to the Adjutant General of the State of PA and was on the Admiral start in Washington DC for Sea Lift Operations.
In 1984, retired with an Honorable Discharge as a Captain in the U.S. Navy Reserve.
He is the past president of the Navy League, Berks County Armed Forces Advisory Committee, Chairman of the Bank Committee for the Armed Forces Committee and Band Chairman of the Armed Forces Committee.
In 1971 He established the Chester Perfetto Agency Inc. located on Commerce Drive in Wyomissing. Chet is the CEO/Owner. The agency markets and services Property, Casualty, Group Insurance, Health, Life, Investments, Retirement Plans and Travel Insurance.
With Chet's background in teaching he primarily spent the later years at his agency educating seniors on Medicare and helping them pick the best plans that fit their needs. He took pride in providing local service by doing monthly programs on WEEU radio and Berks Community Television giving updates on the A-B-C-D's of Medicare. He also loved to speak with different senior groups around the community answering questions about their Medicare needs.
CP Tactical Solutions Inc was established in 2015 by Chet who has 35 years experience as a Naval Gunner Officer and is CEO. Christopher Perfetto is the director of operations It is helping the community by providing firearm classes and safety instruction as well as giving back to those who have served and is located in Sinking Spring.
Celebration of Life Tribute Service will be held in Bean Funeral Home, 129 East Lancaster Ave. Shillington, Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at 11:00 am. Amy S. Landis, Certified Celebrant will officiate. Interment with Military Honors rendered by the United States Navy Honor Guard will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends in Bean Funeral Home Wednesday 8:30 am to 11:00 am.
