Charles Massena

October 6, 1932 — December 15, 2021

Spring Township

Charles W. Massena, 89, of Spring Township passed away on Wednesday December 15, 2021 at the Reading Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Lois (Pavlovcak) Massena. Together they shared over 62 years of marriage. Born in Latrobe, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Charles Wilson Massena and Margaret Lillian (Greene).  Charles, aka Charlie, served proudly in the United States Army. He graduated from St Vincent College and went on to receive his PhD in Physical Chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh. Charlie worked for AT&T as an engineer until his retirement.  He enjoyed wood working and building furniture for family and friends.  You could always find him attending all of his grandchildren’s extra-curricular activities. To say Charlie loved sports is an understatement. He stayed true to his roots as a Pittsburgh sports fan and passed this love onto his children and grandchildren. Charlie coached Van Reed Mite Football for many years. As Coach Massena, his main goal was to have every player participate in each game. Through the years, Charlie enjoyed watching his former players compete in sports at Wilson High School.

Overall, Charlie, was a simple and selfless man who above all put his family first.

In addition to his wife Lois, he is survived by his children, Jill Massena Riccitelli, wife of Aaron, of Sinking Spring; Janice Massena Logullo, of Spring Township; Michael Charles Massena of Spring Township; and his five grandchildren, Tessa and Emma Logullo, Michael, Natalie, and Mia Riccitelli. He was predeceased by his brother Donald Massena.

Bean Funeral Homes, Sinking Spring is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, Charlie requested that donations be made to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital.  A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be made to www.beanfuneralhomes.com
