Charles L. Ebbert, 97, formerly of Shillington and a resident of Mifflin Court, passed away April 22, 2016 in the Reading Hospital.
He was the widower of Kathryn A. (Hoffman) Ebbert.
Born in Reading, he was the son of the late George W. and Mary A. (Gerhart) Ebbert.
Charley was a 1936 graduate of Mohnton High School. He was a US Army veteran serving during WWII as a paratrooper with the 11th Airborne Division. Mr. Ebbert was employed at Birdsboro Corporation in the shipping traffic department for 12 years, retiring in 1985.
Mr. Ebbert was a member of the American Legion in Shillington, Mohnton VFW and Adamstown VFW where he served as All State Commander for two years. He also completed over 300 volunteer hours visiting patients in the Veteran's Hospital in Coatesville and was a former financial secretary of the Pennwyn Club.
Charley was an avid gardener who enjoyed sharing his vegetables with family and friends.
Survivors include a son Charles R. Ebbert, husband of Lois, Shillington; 2 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 3 step great-grandchildren and a brother Rodney Ebbert, Shillington. He was preceded in death by a step-daughter Patricia McComb.
Services will be held in Bean Funeral Homes, 129 East Lancaster Avenue, Shillington, Monday, May 2, 2016 at 11:00am. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive relatives and friends 10:00-11:00am.
