Charlene Wilcox

Charlene M. Wilcox, 88, of Exeter Twp. passed away January 28, 2016 in the Reading Hospital. She was the widow of Wayne L. Wilcox. Charlene was born in Waterman, IL, the daughter of the late Albert and Elsie (Monkemeyer) Popp.

A graduate of Waterman High School, Charlene attended Valparaiso University (Valparaiso, IN) for a time. Years later, she received her BA in Elementary Education from Indiana State University-Evansville. After she and Wayne moved to the Reading area, Charlene earned her master's degree from Kutztown University.

She was employed by the BCIU as an assistant childcare teacher for several years.

Charlene enjoyed reading, cooking, playing bridge, traveling, attending concerts and volunteering for the Reading Symphony Orchestra. She was a member of a local book club and of Alvernia Seniors College. She also had interests in the Reading Museum and Berks County Historical Society.

Survivors include her daughters Cynthia L. Wilcox, Gettysburg; Sally J. Wilcox, Exeter Twp.; Elizabeth A. Hipfel (Steven J.), Annandale, VA, and several nieces and nephews. Her brothers Alvin and Donald Popp predeceased her.

Contributions in Charlene Wilcox's memory may be made to Reading Symphony Orchestra, Reading Museum, Berks County Historical Society or charity of choice.

Services will be held in Bean Funeral Home, 6 Fairlane Rd., Exeter Twp., Reading, Friday, February 5, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends 10:00-11:00 a.m. Burial will be on a later date in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
