Catherine Young

Catherine L. "Kitty" Young, 85, of Muhlenberg Township, passed away Friday, January 22, 2016 at 12:09 am in ManorCare Health Services, Spring Township. She was the wife of the late Charles C. Young who passed away December 14, 1998. Born in Dauberville, she was the daughter of the late Wayne D. and Florence L. (Faust) Barto. She was a 1948 graduate of Reading High School and a 1950 graduate Reading Business Institute. Mrs. Young was a member of The Lutheran Church of The Holy Trinity in Leesport and was employed by the former Globe Mills, Inc. as an office manager to 10 years and for 27 A½ years served as cafeteria manager at Muhlenberg School District retiring in 1995. She has served as Worthy Matron and Secretary of Reading Chapter 251 Order of Eastern Star, Royal Matron, Royal Patron and Secretary of Reading Court #61 Order of Amaranth, High Priestess, Recorder and Treasurer of Minyah Ladies Oriental Shrine, Scrib, Scrib of Tiberias Shrine #21 Order of White Shrine, President , Secretary and Treasurer of Ladies Auxiliary of the Arab Patrol, President and Treasurer of Ladies Auxiliary of Neversink Forest #32 Tall Cedars, President of Berks County School Food Service Association, President of "Rahah Ladies" of Rajah Shrine, member of Shartelsville Senior Citizens and member of Muhlenberg School Retirees. Mrs. Young was preceded in death by her son Thomas A. Young who passed away October 14, 1997 and is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held in The Lutheran Church of The Holy Trinity, 102 Apple Street, Leesport, PA 19533, Friday, January 29, 2016 at 11:00 am. Reverend John E. Houck will officiate. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery of Centre Township at Belleman's Church. The family will receive relatives and friends in Bean Funeral Home, North 16th & Rockland Streets, Hampden Heights, Thursday, January 28, 2016 from 6-8:00 pm and in Church on Friday from 10:30-11:00 am. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to The Lutheran Church of The Holy Trinity at the above address in memory of Mrs. Catherine L. Young.
