Carl E. "Dewey" Boltz, 95, formerly of Reading, passed away Friday, September 18, 2015 in ManorCare Health Services, Muhlenberg Township, where he resided for the past 2 years. He was the husband of the late Catherine L. (Hoverter) Boltz who passed away January 27, 2005. Born in Reading he was the son of the late Arthur W. and Emma C. (Keifer) Boltz. He was a 1938 graduate of Reading High School; received a Bachelors of Arts degree from Lafayette College in 1947 and received his Masters Degree in Education from Temple University in 1952. Mr. Boltz served in the United States Army during World War II and was the recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a Math Teacher at Northeast Junior High School (7th & 8th grades) and at Reading High School(10th & 11th grades) for 26 years. He served as Head of the Math Department from 1975 until his retirement in 1981. He also served as Math instructor at Albright College from 1981-1991. Mr. Boltz played Professional Basketball for the Reading Keys in the late 1940's and early 1950's. He was inducted into the Berks County Basketball Hall of Fame in 1992 and the Reading High School Hall of Fame in 2012. He was an assistant Basketball Coach at Reading High School for 10 years and was an assistant Basketball Coach at Albright College from 1971-1975. He was Reading High Schools Golf Coach from 1951-1971 and Cross Country Coach from 1951-1971.
Mr. Boltz is survived by his children Barbara L. Smaglinski of Muhlenberg Township; Jeffrey C. Boltz, husband of Donna Boltz of Westin, Florida and David E. Boltz, husband of Susan Boltz of Virginia Beach, Virginia along with his 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
