Bruce Underkoffler

August 13, 1958 — October 6, 2020

Bruce A. Underkoffler, born in Boyertown, PA, to Clyde N. Underkoffler and Dolores Mennecke on August 13th, 1958, went to be with our Lord, October 6th, 2020.  He was the beloved husband of Susanne (McCloughan) Underkoffler with whom he shared 35 happy years of marriage.

Graduating in1976 from Boyertown High School, Bruce devoted much of his time to his love of music.  A patron to numerous concerts of various genres, Bruce was also a member of Boyertown H.S. Marching, Jazz, and Psych bands. In addition, he performed during NBA 76er’s games, Philadelphia Mummers parades and various establishments outside of school. While in college Bruce continued with the trumpet as a member of the Lehigh University Brass Choir and the Alumni Band.

Always a champion of learning, Bruce earned a scholarship to Lehigh University where he graduated in 1980, having earned Highest Honors/ Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering. Bruce was inducted into Tau Beta Pi (The National Engineering Honor Society), Alpha Pi Mu and was a Senior Member of the Institute of Industrial Engineers.

Bruce began his professional career in Princeton, New Jersey with Mobil Oil Corporation and continued with ExxonMobil Corporation, retiring in April 2020.

Bruce’s contributions to ExxonMobil Corporation spanned the Globe. During his 40-year career, he was a key member of various U.S. & International Corporate endeavors and was recognized with numerous awards and accolades.

His joy came from working with the friends and colleagues he met along the way. His breadth & depth of knowledge and experience was what he loved to share with his co-workers, often through creative quips and unique observations, always with a smile, as he happily welcomed each new assignment.

Throughout his career he held positions within: Mobil Exploration & Producing, Mobil Research & Development, Wholesale Plant Engineering, U.S. Marketing & Refining, Supply Chain Management, Joint Ventures Operations, Plant Design and Financial Analysis, in addition to; operating as Manager of Refining & Supply Global Remediation for 28 Countries/Americas South, U.S. Field Asset Service Manager, ExxonMobil Global Acquisitions/Trades/Sales Consultant, Worldwide Environmental Emergency Response Team Member and as a ATS Global Commercial Advisor.

Spending time at home with his family was his number one pleasure. Bruce was a loving generous husband. He was fond of many things including sharing his interesting innovative views regarding business & the world with Susanne, experiencing new dining adventures (a good Manhattan cocktail), riding amusement park roller coasters, sharing favorite TV shows & classic movies, attending school activities, and always looked forward to helping with math homework! He had a charismatic personality and was a passionate, dedicated fan of the NFL Eagles - Bruce never missed watching a game.

Bruce is preceded in death by his Mother, Dolores Mennecke; Stepmother, Helen M. Underkoffler; Father, Clyde N. Underkoffler; Stepsister Darlene J. Fields; Uncles, Robert Rothenberger, Richard W. Houck, Sr., Larry Ritter, Norman Ritter Jr., husband of Betty and Aunt Dorothy Odagis.

Bruce is survived by his wife Susanne Underkoffler, his children Christian and Katie Underkoffler; Sisters, Linda Mauck, wife of Richard; Nanette Witmer, wife of John; Uncle, Daniel Ritter, husband of Linda; Aunts, Maefern Houck; Arlene Rothenberger and Ruth Ann Ritter; Mother-in-Law, Elsie McCloughan; Sister-in-law, Deborah Grusemeyer, wife of David; Brother-in-law, Roger McCloughan Jr., husband of Joan.

Celebration of Life Service will be held at Bean Funerals Homes 129 E. Lancaster Ave. Shillington, PA 19607 on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at 12:00pm. Amy S. Landis, Certified Celebrant will officiate. Interment will follow at Laureldale Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends from 10:00am-12:00pm.
