Brian K. Trupp, 57, of Grill, PA, devoted friend, community patron, family member, and lifelong mentor,
passed away Thursday, September 7, 2017 at 12:20 am in Exeter Greens Care & Rehabilitation Center
after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born on November 5, 1959, he was the son of the late
Kenneth R. Trupp and Ethel L. (Stabolepszy). He is survived by his sister Sharon A. Whitehouse,( Les
Pfeifer) of West Chester, PA, and nieces Elizabeth Whitehouse of Reading, Pa, and Emily, spouse of Kyle
O'Neil of Birdsboro.
He was a graduate of Governor Mifflin High School, class of 1977, where he was involved as a
writer for the Gov-Lin - the school newspaper, and a performer and stage hand for the annual
Spring Swings. Brian earned a Bachelors Degree from Kutztown University in Television
Production and Speech and Theatre (1982) followed by a Masters Degree in Telecommunications
(1985), also from KU. He received Photography Certification from the University of Salzburg,
Austria in 1981. He spent his entire vocation as a teacher, videographer, and editor and took
pride in each of his productions aired on cable television locally, regionally, and nationally. He
enjoyed traveling, being outdoors, landscaping, cooking, and volunteering for many church and
civic organizations throughout Berks County. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church,
Reading, PA. Employed by Trinity Church as Director of Media (1982-1989) he also served as the
Church Archivist until time of his death. His book, "The History a/Trinity Lutheran Church" was
published in 2011. He was instrumental in installing a state-of-the art television studio and
control room at the church and his work travels took him from Maine to Georgia gathering news
stories for the church-at-large. He also was hired in the capacity of Media Specialist by The
Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia (1989-1992) and employed by Eastern Lebanon
County School District as a Television Production/ Speech and Theatre Teacher from 1994 to
2016. At ELCO, Brian was also at the helm directing ten fall plays and eight spring musicals and
was an advisor of the Drama Club. He served as tour coordinator and chaperone for numerous
student trips to Europe and the Asian continent.
A former member of the National Federation of Local Cable Programmers and the Berks
Schoolcasting Association, he was the recipient of two local Cable Ace Awards for his historical
documentary work. Listed among the "Who's Who 0f Outstanding Young Men in America", Brian
followed his intense childhood love for the theatre and performed in and directed over seventy
stage productions with Genesius Theatre, Reading Community Players, and Reading Civic
Theatre. His attention to technical detail was incomparable. Brian will be remembered by family and
friends as he touched the lives of so many people with his infectious smile and generosity.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held in Trinity Lutheran Church 527 Washington Street, Reading, PA
19601, Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 11:00 am. Reverend Alan Wolkenhauer will officiate.
Interment will be held privately in Christ Yocom's Cemetery, Grill. In lieu of flowers contributions may
