Betty L. Reinhold, 97, passed away on Wednesday, May 17th in her residence at Country Meadows in Wyomissing. She was born November 5, 1925 to Sarah (Keen) and Delmar Kauffman. Sarah later married Matthew Marchione, and he raised Betty and her sister Janice as if they were his own, along with their younger brother Ronald.
Betty was the widow of Jonathan F. Reinhold, with whom she shared 54 years of marriage. Formerly of Riverview Park, she and her husband built their home in 1952 and she lived there for 68 years. Betty moved into Country Meadows and resided there for the past year and a half.
She graduated from Reading High School in 1943 and began her professional career as a secretary at Vanity Fair in Reading. She took a hiatus from the work force for several years and then began a career at Boscov’s Department Store where she worked in the credit department for 27 years. Upon their retirements, Betty and Johnny spent decades traveling the world with friends and family; visiting the UK, Canada, Italy, and cruising to Bermuda and the Caribbean.
Betty was a lifelong member of St. Marks’s UCC in Reading, where she served on the consistory, sang in the choir, and helped her husband with the yearly ham dinner and Christmas Bazaar.
Betty loved to cook and entertain – having big holiday parties in the basement or cook-outs on the patio. She was an avid reader, sometimes reading several different novels at one time. She is survived by her son, Jonathan R. Reinhold and his wife, Roseann. Also surviving are her granddaughter Dr. Jennifer Reinhold, wife of Meredith Lemon, and her grandson, Jonathan C. Reinhold, fiancée of Collier Cobb. Betty is also survived by her nephews Dyke Becker, husband of Debra; Carey Becker, husband of Leann; Matthew Marchione (Jean); and nieces Tracy Marchione Evans (Kenny) and Patty Owens. In addition to her husband, Betty was pre-decreased her sister Janice Becker, nephew Kirk Becker, and brother Ronald Marchione.
A very special thanks to all of the staff at Country Meadows and Grane Hospice for their loving and compassionate care.
