Betty Hennershutz

Betty J. Hennershutz, 90, of Spring Township, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at 12:30 pm in her home. She was the wife of the late Walter E. Hennershutz who passed away May 22, 2005. Born in Reading she was the daughter of the late John W. and Catharine M. (McCoy) Slonaker. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Mount Penn and was an avid seamstress who also enjoyed doing crafts. Betty sang with her father, Slim Slonaker and the Gloom Chasers, which sang on local radio stations as well as on National Barn Dance, WLS in Chicago. She is survived by her siblings Mary Ann Hile, wife of the late Clarence E. Hile of Land O Lakes, Florida; John D. Slonaker of Reading; Marilyn J. Firing, wife of the late Warren H. "Pop" Firing, Jr. of Bern Township; Patricia M. Heckman, wife of Roy R. Heckman of Coatesville and Nancy J. Heere, wife of Michael K. Heere of Muhlenberg Township along with her 21 nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her sister Dorothy R. Reed-Goodwin, February 26, 2015.
Funeral Services will be held in Bean Funeral Home, North 16th & Rockland Streets, Hampden Heights Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at 1:00 pm. Reverend Diane M. LaFauci will officiate. Interment will follow in Laureldale Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends Tuesday 12-1:00pm. Floral tributes would be appreciated or contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Berks County 1801 North 11th Street, Reading, PA 19604 in memory of Mrs. Betty J. Hennershutz.
