Arthur W. "Bud" Mentzer Jr., 83, of West Lawn, passed away Sunday, August 23rd at 11:00 p.m. at Manor Care- Sinking Spring, where he had been a patient for two weeks.
Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Arthur W. Mentzer Sr. and Emeline E. (Sohl) Mentzer.
He was the husband of Geraldine P. "Gerrie" (Kruszewski) Mentzer. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on August 6th.
He was a 1944 graduate of Reading High School, and served with the United States Navy during World War II.
He worked as a rigger for Morris Kreitz and Sons in Wyomissing for 36 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of West Lawn United Methodist Church, where he and Mrs. Mentzer were involved in the Kitchen Ministry's "West Lawn Wednesday's" since its inception in 2000.
He was also a fifty year member of the Nomads Sportsmen's Club in Schuylkill Co, and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters: Lynda S. (Mentzer), wife of Jeffrey A. Mikos of York, and Carol A. (Mentzer), wife of P. Evan Lallier of Delaware.
There are also five grandchildren: Tara, Catherine, Matthew, Andrew, and Mark.
He is also survived by his sister: Marian S. (Mentzer), wife of Roland A. Williams of the Villages in Florida, two nieces, and two nephews.
