Alton "Bummer" Willard Ellis, 87, of Wernersville, passed away January 26, 2016 in his residence.
Born in Mohnton, he was the son of the late George and Mazie (Epler) Ellis.
Alton was a US Navy veteran and was employed at John Pfrommer, Inc. in Douglassville as a truck mechanic for over 20 years, retiring in 2000. He was chief mechanic for the USAC sprint car Pfrommer Offy, which was driven by legendary drivers Jud Larson and Tommy Hinnershitz.
Bummer took great pleasure following his favorite baseball team, the Philadelphia Phillies.
Survivors include children Barry S. Ellis, Wernersville; Bryan W. Ellis, Fleetwood and Brenda Kripplebauer, Blandon; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Other survivors include siblings Betty Rickert, Landsdale; Donald Ellis, Laureldale; Richard Ellis, Sinking Spring; Wilbur Ellis, Fleetwood and Sherwood Ellis, Tampa, FL. He was predeceased by siblings Grace Scott, George Ellis, Charles Ellis, Kenneth Ellis and Robert Ellis.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
