Allison Reese

Allison(Al)Reese, 85, of Reading, passed away December 29, 2009 at 10:40 am in The Reading Hospital & Medical Center a patient since November 26, 2009. He was the husband of Virginia S. (Saul) Reese. Born in Wolfsburg, PA, he was the son of the late Allison I. and Gertrude E. (Weaverling) Reese. Mr. Reese was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Reading. In the community, Al Reese served on Boards of Berks County Chamber of Commerce and the Children's Home of Reading, the executive committee of the United Way of Berks County, The Reading Arson Task Force, The Bern Township Vacancy Board, Rotary International and Council of Christ Lutheran Church. He was named I-Day "Insurance Person of the Year" in 1991. Al served our nation as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corp from 1942-1945 seeing difficult times in the islands of the South Pacific. He earned a degree in economics from Gettysburg College and an MBA at the University of Richmond and went on to a 37 year career with Aetna Life and Casualty Insurance Company including 26 years as General Manager of the branch office in Reading. Gettysburg College recently presented Al with the prestigious "Meritorious Service Award". He was also past president of Berkshire Country Club. Al loved to play golf with family and friends and played at many famous golf courses especially Augusta. Fishing with his sons in Alaska, The Keys, Maine and Maryland was also his pleasure. He will be sadly, sadly missed by all family and friends. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Dr. David A. husband of Alden H. Reese of Hanover, PA and Stuart H. husband of Elizabeth G. Reese of Marco Island, Florida and his daughter Alice R. wife of Eric J. Hagan of North Wales, PA along with 5 grandsons, Andrew and Jack Reese, Michael and Bryce Hagan, Thomas Reese, 3 granddaughters, Katharyn Garfield, Elizabeth Perumal, Jill Reese and 4 great grandchildren.
