Alberta Hughes

Alberta C. Hughes, 95, formerly of Reading, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2015 at 5:42 pm in Berkshire Center. She was the wife of the late Harold L. "Hap" Hughes who passed away August 22, 1981 and partner of the late Earl Snyder who passed away in 1985. Born in Reading she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Edith (Dundore) Nittinger. She had an unfailing love for her family, volunteered at the Reading Soup Kitchen and attended Bible Study at Faith United Methodist Church in Reading. Mrs. Hughes is survived by her children Lois M. Matz, wife of the late Donald R. Matz of Reading; Harold L. "Hap" Hughes, husband of the late Bernice M. Hughes of West River, Maryland and John K. Hughes, husband of Linda M. Hughes of Exeter Township along with her 10 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister June Shade of Reading and was preceded in death by 5 brothers and sisters.
Funeral Services will be held in Bean Funeral Home, North 16th & Rockland Streets, Hampden Heights, Friday, July 3, 2015 at 11:00 am. Reverend Robert E. McSurdy will officiate .
