Albert Smith

June 3, 1924 — January 5, 2018

Albert L. Smith, 93, formerly of Exeter Township, passed away Friday, January 5, 2018 in Lakeway Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Benton, Kentucky. He was the husband of the late Dorothy M. (Williams) Smith who passed away October 16, 2001. Born in Bern Township, Mr. Smith was the son of the late Clayton W. and Clara M. (Demming) Smith. He was a member of the United Church of Christ denomination and served in the United States Navy during World War II as a 2nd Class Petty Officer, Radio Man. Mr. Smith was employed as a machinist at Textile Machine Works in Wyomissing for 39 years until his retirement in 1987 and prior to that worked at Alexander Hat Factory in West Reading for 3 years. He is survived by his daughter Darlene A. Stein, wife of Thomas E. Stein of Gilbertsville, Kentucky and 4 grandsons and 6 great grandchildren. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his son Gregory S. Smith, July 4, 2008, his grandson Thomas C. Stein, July 5, 2011, his brother Willard L. Smith and his sister Edna C. Steffy.
Celebration of Life Tribute Service will be held in Bean Funeral Home, 129 East Lancaster Ave. Shillington, Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 10:00 am. Amy S. Landis, Certified Celebrant will officiate. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Mohnsville Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends in Bean Funeral Home, Saturday 9:00-10:00 am. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society 3893 Adler Place Suite 170, Bethlehem, PA 18017 in memory of Mr. Albert L. Smith.
