Name: James R. Davis Dates: Birth date: July 07, 1943 Death date: February 05, 2010 Obituary: James R. Davis, 66, the genial Fifth St. Reading Garage Owner, passed away on Friday, February 5, 2010 at 7:05 a.m. at home. Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Donald M. Davis and Kathryn (Houser) Davis. He was the husband of Shirlee A. (Staltzman) Moyer Davis. He was a 1961 graduate of Governor Mifflin High School. He was the owner of Berks Mutual Leasing for the last three years, having purchased the business after working as the Business Manager since 1986. He previously owned Davis Auto Equipment for more than 30 years. He loved going to the Stock Car Races in his youth, and had a passion for the Reading Railroad Company. He was a member of the Historical Society of Berks County, and was an expert of local Reading history. In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons: James D. Davis of Mohnton, and Jonathan E. Davis, husband of Christina Davis of Mohnton; and a daughter: Valerie L. (Davis) Hafer, wife of Gary Hafer of Mohnton; and stepsons: Steven M. Moyer, husband of Patti Moyer of Muhlenberg Twp., and Jon S. Moyer, husband of Lorraine Moyer of Muhlenberg Twp. There are also four grandchildren: Amanda, Austin James, Jonathan Jr., and Natalie; and four step grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was pre deceased by a daughter: Jennifer Ann, who passed away in May of 1966, and a stepson: Randy S. Moyer, who passed away in 2005.
Visitation: Friends will be received Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Service: DUE TO THE IMPENDING INCLEMENT WEATHER THE SERVICES FOR MR. DAVIS HAVE BEEN POSTPONED TO FRIDAY. Services from the Bean Funeral Home, N. 16th & Rockland Sts., Reading, Friday at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Karl L. Kern officiating. Cemetery: Interment in Forest Hills Memorial Park. |
