Obituary: Naomi Ruth (Wolfe) Mengel, 85, of Reading, passed away July 7, 2012 at 6:45 PM in ManorCare Health Services, Inc. in Laureldale. Naomi was married 63 years to her late husband, Roland B. Mengel who died November 10, 2010. Born in Reading on January 18, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Ralph H. and Florence E. (Uhler) Wolfe.
Naomi graduated from Reading High School, class of 1945. She was employed by Nolde and Horst Hosiery, Kenney Shoe Store, and was an Avon Representative for over 40 years winning many awards for high salesmanship. She was treasurer of the City Republican Committee for many years. As a member of a United Methodist Congregation, Naomi was very active as a Sunday School Teacher, Prayer Meeting Class Leader, choir member, Christian Endeavor, and several committees. Naomi enjoyed Youth for Christ and was a teacher for Child Evangelism. She was an active member of United Methodist Women, holding offices in her Local Unit as well as the District level. Currently she was a member of First Baptist Church, Reading.
In addition to her late husband Roland and late son John B. Mengel she is survived by three daughters; Cynthia (Ronald) Badinger, Julie (William) Baeighkley, Sylvia Mengel, and son Luke A. Mengel.
There are seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren, a sister Grace (Charles) Potts, a sister in law, June S. Gerhart, widow of her brother, Rev. Ralph D. Wolfe. She was preceded in death by sister, Josephine (Abram) Frey and a brother Rev. Charles (Grace) Wolfe.
She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Friends and relatives will be received Thursday 12:00 to 1:00 PM.
Service: Services will be Thursday at 1:00 PM in Bean Funeral Home, N. 16th & Rockland Streets, Hampden Heights. Rev. Dr. Michael E. Hall will officiate.
Cemetery: Interment will be made in Forest Hills Memorial Park. |
